A couple months ago I was doing search after search on Airbnb, trying to find a place my family and I could stay super last minute. Luckily, I was able to snag a cottage near the beach in Gibsons, BC! The space was super homey, had the best balcony, and was minutes away from the ocean, plus it comfortably fit all five of us! If you wanna check out where we stayed, and maybe even book it yourself, click here.

Our days were very lax. I'd wake up, make breakfast and coffee, then head out onto the deck and dig in. The mornings were warm, and you could even hear the waves lapping nearby. Nearly every day had a farmers market going on, this is where we'd pick up some local veggies for dinner, and leisurely wander through the stalls. One company I discovered was Eco-Freako, where I picked up a reusable coffee filter (super stoked on this purchase) and an all-natural deodorant. My daily to-do list consisted of reading, journaling, swimming, and taking it easy- as you should on vacation.

Food & Drink

Our fave spot to eat was Won Japanese, their tofu roll was my favourite by far. We also cooked a lot at 'home' since our Airbnb had a full kitchen which was real handy.

While walking around town we stopped by Mike's Place, which had eight vegan ice-cream flavours!! Of course the three of us who got ice-cream, got the same flavour- coconut milk chocolate, which tasted like frosting, mmmmm.

A must visit if you're in Gibsons is Persephone Brewing (AKA the Beer Farm), and I mean you really gotta check it out. It's like a winery and a brewery had a baby, and this place popped out. You can actually see the rows of hops growing, and they have the best outdoor seating.

We also happened to be there during the Sea Cavalcade, which is an annual event that celebrates living on the coast, with a corny parade and all. Because Gibsons is such a small town, crowds were nonexistent, which meant we got a front row seat to the fireworks display. We stood along the jetty and just took it all in. I don't think I've ever been that close to fireworks before, it was pure bliss, I felt like a kid again in total awe. There was also a blood moon rising that night, which made it even more memorable. Our first time to Gibsons, and the Sunshine Coast in general, was a huge success. I'll definitely be back; to swim in the clear ocean water, to spend my time with good company, and to enjoy the simplicity of coast living.
