BOOK RECOMMENDATIONS

I love getting lost in a good book, but I also love making excuses. Too many times I've duped myself into thinking I was too busy to sit down, relax, and read, and yet there I was mindlessly scrolling through my social media feeds.

Personally, if I'm going to read I have to plan it into my day. I need to jot it down in my agenda and make time for it, otherwise I never seem to get around to it. But, now that I'm back at school and taking public transit, I find myself with a lot of time on my hands, so I use it to my advantage. I pack a book in my backpack and use my commute as my dedicated time to get lost in a good book.

These are my 2018 book recommendations (thus far), each one is worth the mention.

All about love

This was the first book I read in 2018. It's all about love, which is something we ought to know more about. Bell Hooks is so insightful, and ties in actual studies to back up what she's speaking about.

Communion

Another amazing book by Bell Hooks. Aimed towards females and their journey to find love. Her books always make me have those "ah-ha" moments.

The defining decade

I'm so glad I read this when I did. It's a collection of stories with real issues, and useful solutions that every twenty-something can relate to.

Room

Written from the perspective of a young boy living an unimaginable life, this book was unlike anything I've read before. I have yet to watch the movie, but plan on doing so!

Milk and honey

A very popular poetry book, and I can see why, her words are beautiful.

The four agreements

This book simplifies life for you. It makes you stop, think, and change the way you've been approaching your day to day life. A small book packed with so much knowledge.

I buy most of my books off of Amazon, and if there's used copies available you can snag a book for 50-75% off the regular price, heck ya! I also check my local thrift shops which are an even better deal.

Carve out some time, get comfortable, and let all the chatter in your mind cease.

Pick up that book and escape.
